Being on the road has given me and awesome opportunity to meet new people, see new places and try things I never thought I would be able to, or didn’t even know existed. Experiencing these things is really great and I have learned things I will never forget. My family and I talk about all of people we have met, things we have done, and places we have been an a regular basis and it is really cool to look back and remember all of the amazing thing we have done. That jogs our memory and makes us realize all the cool stuff we have done and brings back lots of good, bad and just plain weird memories.
One of my favorite things we do and something I highly recommend is getting a “Signature book” it has been one of the best ways to remember people we have met along the way. The first few months we had a scrapbook kind of book and when we met someone we thought were cool or it was someone we wanted to remember (there are a lot of odd and interesting people that we want to remember) we have them sign our book. The Scrapbook worked and accomplished what we wanted it too but we were always on the look for a new book we could use. Dad knew exactly what he was looking for so whenever we would pass a specialty shop that had signature books we would stop and take a look. The search went on for a few months until finally we stumbled upon a little specialty shop. It is in the French Quarter in New Orleans and is called Papier Plume. It is a really neat store that sells Quill Pens and accessories, and lots of different types of books and stationary.
My Dad says it was like the “Holy Grail” shining there just waiting for him to come along and find it, and he did find it. The exact book he had imagined to fill with memories along our travels. Just a plain leather book full of blank pages but perfect for what we wanted it for. Dad spent quite awhile looking through all of the different book choosing what leather he wanted and the size he wanted, he made a decision and we were all so stocked to have the book. Robin the owner of the store was the first to sign our new book and is someone who we will always remember.
