We had to get our RV in for some work. This meant we had to pack everything up (this part is pretty usual) and then prepare a 4-5 day pack for everyone while we move out into a hotel while waiting on the work to get done. So all the kids packed their bags for the hotel stay and we hitched the rig up to the truck. Honestly it felt kinda good as we had been sitting for a long time in Utah. Well as usual the dogs were riding in the truck with us. We also had Conner’s new gerbils, Bergan and Lilly riding in the truck. We didn’t get 20 minutes down the road and I freaked out as I felt something crawling on my foot. I have a very minor tendency to be slightly arachnophobic. I have never liked spiders and feeling this thing crawl up my leg while I was negotiating with traffic in conjunction with pulling our mammoth rig really freaked me out. I surveyed my surroundings and made an executive decision that it would be safe to peer down to my feet thus removing my eyes from the road for a small moment. This revealed that it was not a hairy spider on my feet but rather Conner’s new gerbil, Bergan!! She was loose in the truck and crawling around my feet. You can’t easily pull over to get her while pulling our 5th wheel and now I was scared to press on the gas or brake pedals. This was a very interesting situation all by itself but then you add in the fact that Kati is afraid of these gerbils and pulls her feet up onto her seat and starts screaming. It was pretty funny. After about 30 minutes of freedom, Kelby was able to apprehend Bergan and get her safely into her cage thus rendering the rest of the drive uneventful. So for the sake of animal safety everyone please check your critter cages prior to departing on your journeys. It will make everyone happier. Safe journeys to you all, Vernon
